To do this sort of work you must have a strong belief and passion for the destinations you visit. This is the first step in developing a successful journey. We don’t just want to churn out departures on our trips to get numbers on the board and tell people how good we are. No, we take a personal interest in each and every trip, and we want every one of our guests to have a special experience. Whether it is the food, culture, people, architecture, romance, landscape, shopping, walking or sightseeing, we want to share our passion and experience with you to make it a truly memorable experience.

Most of our trips are for 18 days, just enough time to relax and unwind. We believe that this is an ideal length of time for a small group journey – time enough to get to know each other, and not too long for the trip to become uncomfortable. We don’t start at the crack of dawn (unless it is totally unavoidable), and if we are travelling that day or sightseeing, we like to get back to our hotel before the sun sets so our guests can relax, have a drink and reflect on the events of the day.

Our small world journeys do not include dinner. This is because we want to take you out! There are many fantastic spots to grab a bite; from high-end classical Vietnamese dining to local street-vendors – a myriad of taste sensations await!

Our history: Goddard & Howse is a travel company specialising in helping travellers from all over the world discover South East Asia. The company was established in 1993 and operates from Canberra, Australia. Our guest list includes travellers from the USA, England, France and New Zealand.

Since 1996 we have been operating small group journeys in Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia and Laos, and we have office representation in all of these countries employing local people. Our vast experience and local knowledge means that we can give our guests a quality and memorable experience every time.

We have pioneered trips to remote destinations in South East Asia, researching and thoroughly planning an adventure and experience that our guests will long cherish. We now operate from Mandalay in Burma to Zhong Zien, high on the Yunnan Plateau in southern Tibet following the Old Burma Road and crossing the border between Shan State and China – it is all very exciting!

Our charter is to continue to develop our portfolio of small world journeys, focussing on the regions we know best and bringing first class travel experiences to all of our guests.

Typically, our small world journeys attract well-travelled people. Most of our guests have spent many years travelling the world, originally with a backpack slung across their shoulders, taking their chances on local buses, planes and trains.

There comes a time when enough is enough and a slightly more comfortable form of travel is desirable.
Goddard & Howse offer a fresh alternative because each time we take a trip, our guides are focussed and fresh - they have not been working non-stop, running back-to-back tours until every guest looks the same and every scenic spot has lost its magic.

We resist the corporate and global spotlight because we want to deliver a more personal experience, which is why our groups are small, our guides are passionate and our departures are not every Monday. We will take the angst out of your travels with seamless arrangements and carefully arranged itineraries. This means that you get more time to enjoy the moment and, most importantly, feel that you have had a full and rewarding holiday.
